How do you inspire more kindergarten teachers?

Utdanningsforbundet came to us with a clear goal: to inspire more people to choose the kindergarten-teacher profession — and to join Utdanningsforbundet.

Many associate the job with play and cuddles. But kindergarten teachers are professionals with deep expertise and great responsibility. They plan, assess, and lead the pedagogical work that shapes children’s development, wellbeing, and life skills.

The truth is that Norway’s kindergarten sector faces a critical staffing situation. Children spend more time in kindergarten than ever before, and increasingly younger children need stability and close follow-up. Yet there’s a shortage of both qualified staff and teachers. This threatens the quality of care — and, at worst, children’s right to safety and development.

To tell these stories in an honest and engaging way, we needed something that felt both personal and genuine. We wanted to highlight the human side — those quiet, everyday moments where care, closeness, and professionalism meet. That meant keeping things simple, authentic, and grounded in real environments.

While celebrating the teachers, the films also highlight Utdanningsforbundet’s vital work supporting them throughout their careers — and their fight to secure better frameworks and conditions across kindergartens.

We chose one location that felt authentic and full of character

We filmed both interviews and B-roll at Orre Kindergarten — a space that had exactly what we wanted: warmth, wear, and visual charm without looking staged or polished. It was a true reflection of what real kindergartens look like. Nothing was “set up” — just real people, in real places, doing what they love.

The interviews gave us stories filled with pride, meaning, and warmth

Each teacher shared unique, heartfelt stories — their challenges, their motivations, and what they look forward to most in their day. The interviews were shot in different parts of the kindergarten to create visual variety.
Some were understandably nervous in front of the camera, so we took time before, during, and after each session to make them feel at ease. The result: genuine personalities and stories that carry the emotional weight of the films.

The chemistry between teachers and children was immediate — and moving

On the second shooting day, we focused on moments between teachers and children. What surprised us most was how quickly the teachers built trust and connection — even though they’d just met the children that morning. Behind the camera, it felt like watching old friends.
Moments of interaction, laughter, learning, and care became the emotional core of the films. We started at a respectful distance to let everyone settle, then gradually moved closer to capture the emotion up-close, letting the moments unfold naturally without interruption.

A warm, handheld camera style to match the story

To preserve a personal and intimate feel, we kept the camera handheld throughout the shoots. That let us move freely with the teachers and children. The look was soft and warm, with neutral, earthy tones true to the environment. Every choice — from colour grading to lighting — supported the tone we wanted: caring and authentic.

The stories set the rhythm

There was no need for a script or narrator — the people and stories speak for themselves. In editing, we focused on pacing that followed their natural rhythm, shaping the atmosphere with carefully chosen music and cuts.

We delivered both full films and social cut-downs

We produced three main films, each telling its own story about life as a kindergarten teacher and why they’re members of Utdanningsforbundet.
We also delivered shorter versions optimised for social media and advertising — attention-grabbing sequences designed to lead viewers toward Utdanningsforbundet’s resources.

A result true to the vision — and warmly received

Utdanningsforbundet described the collaboration as “fun and exciting.” They highlighted our ability to listen, understand their needs, and come well prepared — with professionalism and creative ideas.

“We felt we were working with people who take their craft seriously. Flare were solution-oriented, always positive, and excellent at meeting our needs while guiding the process with their expertise.”

The finished films struck the perfect balance between message and tone — something Utdanningsforbundet greatly appreciated:

“The films communicated the message professionally yet felt natural and genuine. They captured the everyday life of the kindergarten and its teachers perfectly.”

A strong collaboration that produced films with lasting value

For Flare, this was one of those projects where everything just clicked — the people, the stories, and the purpose behind it.
The Utdanningsforbundet team were engaged, open, and clear about their goals, and the feedback was honest and constructive. Together we created a result we can all be proud of — one that shows just how important kindergarten teachers are.

“They listened to our needs, offered thoughtful input, and came up with creative solutions. Professional and easy to work with.”

The films are now used at conferences, in campaigns, and across digital platforms — sharing a powerful message that helps Utdanningsforbundet attract and support more kindergarten teachers.
